All in your head

Heather leaned against the wall with her arms folded. She could still see the concern in his warm eyes. If only it were concern for her and not that Emily.

She didn’t deserve Jake with her perfect body, blonde hair, and pouty lips and did I mention perfect body? What was the power she held over Jake? It seems to me that all Emily has to do is move and Jake would be right besides her asking her if everything was okay. She was helpless! Well, Heather was not helpless. She could run circles around miss perfect body Emily. 

She unfolded her arms and huffed away from everyone around her. She casually wiped away an escaped tear from her eye. 

Why do I care? Why do I like him? Oh yeah, that’s why. 

She closed her eyes and remembered their first meeting as a smile replaced the frown on her face

He was so caring to me and the children. He was hurt himself but he put us first. And those eyes, oh so warm and inviting. Why couldn’t he be concerned for me now like he is for that Emily? I just don’t understand. It seems that Emily pushes him away and sling insults his way every chance she gets! I sure wouldn’t do that to him. No way! I would wrap my arms around him and not let go!

Heather sighed and looked around her. This was silly to obsess over a guy and she knew it. But part of her just couldn’t help it.

 What power did that Emily have over Jake?
